Addison Homes President Todd Usher shows off the company’s EarthCraft Gold Project of the Year Award, which he received during the October 2012 EarthCraft Celebration of Excellence.

We are delighted to announce that Addison Homes received an EarthCraft House Gold Project of the Year Award during last week’s EarthCraft Celebration of Excellence in Atlanta.

The October event, hosted by Southface and the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association, recognized 17 industry leaders from across the Southeast for outstanding green building design/construction projects completed in 2011 and 2012.

Addison Homes — a custom home builder in Greenville, SC — was honored for a Punctatum Place mountain retreat atop Caesars Head. Built in 2011, this EarthCraft House Gold Project of the Year is noted for blending a 1930s aesthetic with the latest energy-smart features including ultra-efficient design and ENERGY STAR-rated systems, appliances and fixtures.

Punctatum Place presented a unique challenge: the owners wanted to re-create the ‘look’ of the site’s former, 80-year-old cabin – but also wanted the comfort, durability and efficiency of a high-performance home. The project’s resource-friendly construction began with a tree preservation plan for the site (which was ultimately certified as a backyard wildlife habitat) and included advanced framing techniques to conserve lumber; utilized recycled-content materials such as concrete and insulation; and incorporated an abundance of reclaimed materials throughout the home’s interior and exterior design.

Our clients were charmed with the results – a home that exudes a quaint ambiance while exhibiting an amazing level of efficiency – and we’re delighted to have our efforts recognized among the best of EarthCraft single-family projects.

Our company president, Todd Usher, received the Gold Project of the Year Award from David Ellis, executive vice president of the Greater Atlanta HBA. “EarthCraft professionals are realizing greater success than their peers because they are delivering a high value product to the market,” Ellis said. “We celebrate Addison Homes’ vision and their leadership.”

EarthCraft – founded in 1999 by Southface and the Greater Atlanta HBA – is a regional green building certification program designed to promote energy-efficient, healthy, comfortable and durable new construction and renovation for single- and multi-family homes, community developments and light-commercial structures.
